Kite Lesson Plan
NEVER TOUCHED A KITE YET.
First 2 hours lesson... Excitement level is over the roof!
A bit of patience before getting in the water please. You will need to spend some time on the beach to do some theory to learn about some basics.

On the beach :

Learn about your equipment with the safety system

Prepare / setup a kite with a control bar
-
Get the first tips to fly it (No worries - it's like driving a bicycle)

Learn about the potential risks & safety basics
-
Understand your kitesurf spot & the wind conditions.
Time to go in the water - Be the Boss now! Learn to manage and fly the kite to become a real pilot!​ Your kite should always fly as it will be your "engine" and wind your "fuel".
With your instructor you need to make the kite fly in different positions, situations and conditions.
Objectives :

Control & steer the kite with 2 & 1 hand

Kite Lesson Plan
SWIM & FLY THE KITE
Second lesson: Get dragged into the water
As soon as you feel confident enough and developed your new skills: Fly the kite with 2 hands & 1 hand
Get wet & let the kite do the job! You can start connecting with the water: let's go for a swim & body drag with the kite!
All the exercises practiced previously will be repeated in the water.
​
To become an Independent Kiteboarder, Body Dragging is an important step of your learning process & this is also where the "FUN" starts even if it can be a bit challenging.
You will learn how to use your kite in the water to move in different directions.
Also, explore and understand better the Power that can be created with your kite... And get pulled progressively harder by the kite as you will need this power to get on top of your board soon.

Recover your kiteboard or return safely to the shore

Understand how much power you can generate from your kite

Get more confident with your kite

Relaunching the kite from the water will also be part of this learning process and will be practiced at a different stage of the training.

Third lesson - Ready to ride the board?
The water start or how to multi-task!
The waterstart Position
Learn how to control your kite and put your feet into the board straps at the same time.
The waterstart
After getting a good kite control, the board control is the second key to riding: Your board acts like a rudder > making you float and controlling your course.
Practice kite steering & manage your body position to stand up and stay on top of your board.
As soon as you will get the habit of waterstart, riding will come along. Managing your speed will be your next target to be able to ride progressively further.

If you are a fast learner in 5 to 6 hours you are already starting to handle the board.

Generate the correct amount of power with your kite

Understand how to edge the board
You are already aiming to be completely independent: Being able to start from the shore and come back to the same spot after your riding session is your next objective.
The road to being independent

RIDING UPWIND : EXTRA BOARD SKILLS
Extra practice to become completely independent
This step will make you obsessed & be the beginning of your addiction to kitesurfing!
Practice makes perfect: You need to spend as much time as possible in the water to learn to ride upwind to be fully independent & master the elements.
Riding upwind is the ultimate goal of beginners...
No more "walks of shame" on the beach as you are finally able to manage to ride in all the directions on the water.

Objectives:

You can finally start and come back at the same level on the beach.

When you manage this level, you made the biggest step to be a kiteboarder.

Most important > To be considered as an independent rider, both, you and your instructor should agree about your abilities to remain safe > you have to be confident enough to go out on your own
