ANSE LA RAIE KITESURF SPOT
SAFE BAY & HUGE KITE LAGOON
OUR FAVORITE KITE SPOT IN MAURITIUS
ANSE LA RAIE BAY : OUR TEACHING AREA
This is a great place to learn kiteboarding & kitesurfing.
Anse la Raie is one of the only spots in the north of the island where you can ride in a lot of different wind directions.
More of a "local" spot than a famous worldwide spot, it is more "intimate" compared to Le Morne / One eye in the South, also smaller but usually less crowded as well.
Anse la raie offers super safe conditions to ride with on-shore wind: For lessons, it is possible to stand & walk-in knee to waist-deep water depending on tide levels.
We usually cannot teach on extreme low tide as there is not enough water & high tide is also challenging to teach/learn even if there is no current in the bay.
The bay is surrounded by rocks, you always need to use a small path in the water to walk a short distance upwind for confirmed riders before you can ride without any obstacles.
For beginners and students, the walk will be a bit longer before it is possible to ride.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM
ANSE LA RAIE BAY & LAGOON KITE SPOT
ONE STOP SHOP : FREESTYLE - FREERIDE - SURF - FOIL
Depending on the tide and the water level... everything is possible in the bay.
The rocks surrounding the area provide pretty flat water into the bay (perfect for lessons/beginners, freestyle & foiling), this bay is always safe but don't forget to keep a safe distance from the shore (rocks, trees, boats).
For people who can not yet ride straight away or body drag properly, it will be recommended to have some shoes. If you feel confident about your level and your skills, you can start exploring the huge kite spot that Anse la Raie lagoon has to offer.
You will have to own your ride in the huge kite lagoon of the North, it will be necessary to do a few tacks upwind, depending on the wind direction, to be able to enjoy kilometers of the turquoise water, to ride PANIK wave spot (offshore reef break) or to foil upwind as far as you want (watch out the tide - some tricky spots in the lagoon with some shallows).
This lagoon connects the East to the North and gives us the opportunity to organize special events such as safe downwinders in the region.

EXTRA TIPS & WARNINGS FOR ANSE LA RAIE KITE SPOT
⚠️ Anse La Raie beach is a really small area to prepare your kite, to launch & land it can be probably the most challenging part of your kitesurf experience on this spot. It is a place that is a bit more technical than Le Morne Kite lagoon beach for example.
Launching from Anse la raie beach can be pretty tricky: small beach area, rocks & trees. On gusty wind days, your kite might front stall easily.
If you can't body drag confidently, shoes are highly recommended!
🙏🏾 Wrap your lines on your bar if you are on the beach area and not going to ride! This would be very respectful to other riders and keep the spot free for landing and launching.
DOWNWINDER TRIPS
LET'S EXPLORE THE COAST
WHAT IS A DOWNWIND?
In kitesurfing, a downwinder refers to a specific type of kiteboarding excursion or day trip. It involves riding downwind, meaning you travel in the same direction as the wind instead of returning to your starting point, you ride with the wind at your back and cover a longer distance along the coastline or a specific route.
Downwinders can be done in various conditions, from mellow and relaxed rides to more challenging and exhilarating experiences. They provide an opportunity to enjoy the freedom of kitesurfing while taking in the scenic views and exploring different areas along the coast.
This type of "excursion" allows riders to explore different spots, experience new conditions, and enjoy an extended kitesurfing session
REQUIREMENTS : RIDERS' LEVEL TO PARTICIPATE
Downwinders are popular among experienced kitesurfers who are confident in their skills and have good control over their equipment.
It's important to note that downwinders require careful consideration of the wind and weather conditions, as well as knowledge of the area and potential hazards. It's recommended to undertake downwinders with a group or experienced riders.
